The Chardonnet municipal campsite, more commonly known as La Monta camp, is located in the new town of Abries-Ristolas and welcomes you in a fabulous setting. On the GR 58 circuit, between Col Agnel and Malrif, a comforting camping stopover in the Queyras Regional Natural Park and at the gateway to the nature reserve. Within the Franco-Italian Mont Viso massif (3,841 m.), the nature reserve extends over 2,295 hectares, between 1,700 m and 3,287 m above sea level. At the foot of many passes (Lacroix, Vieux, Agnel, Valante, Traversette) and not far from the mythical Mont Viso. You will find with us the spirit of a mountain base camp with authentic catering.
It has always been a land of passage for cultural and commercial exchanges between France and Italy, but rather than laying out thousands of words on this subject, we let you do your research and will be more than happy to share it in person. around a moment shared at the camp.
Partially destroyed in December 2008 by snow avalanches, the place has been restructured by erasing what were the weak points in the pure mountain spirit, one step after another, not to let go.
What was a too noisy restaurant point because in the heart of the site has now become a real base camp at the foot of the campsite! Insurance companies do not validate fixed installations, never mind, here is now a pioneer trailer as a welcome office and two Mongolian yurts as a hidden HQ and dining room. This is indeed what defines this place in its essence: a permanent adaptation to the things of life rather than sales and marketing directions.
In the last eddies of history, since 2016, Bill Mahaney of the University of Toronto, has positioned the camp on the more than potential route of passage for Hannibal's army marching on Rome, which would place the Camp on the road of possibilities since 218 BC.
Today, this campsite has become a real crossroads: being the last campsite in the valley and the first mountain descent camp, which generates this very special atmosphere. In any case and no matter how you use it, it feels at home.
Recognised as the french lauréat by the naturel reserve Unesco en 2021, and granted by the label "valeur marque Parc" by the Queyras régional Parc in 2023.
